A Look Back
The story of SiteGround began in 2004 with a dream: we wanted to create a hosting service that redefines the standards in this field. We weren’t happy with the level of service offered at the time, so we rolled up our sleeves to build the service we would like to use ourselves. In the beginning, our team was very small and everyone was doing everything, wearing multiple hats. At the end of the first intense year, we got a few hundred clients.
Today, SiteGround is a family of over 500 smart, enthusiastic, and hardworking people. Our hosting platform is home to more than 3 Million domains, and our data centers are spread over 6 continents. All these achievements are the result of our commitment to excellence, innovation, and customer satisfaction.

Our servers are equipped with the latest PHP versions and run in a secure Apache environment. We have advanced systems in place to block harmful bots and attacks, and our custom security module actively scans incoming requests to protect against common threats. Additionally, despite offering shared servers, the users are completely isolated from each other. We also have developed AI anti-bot system that effectively blocks millions of security threats every day, including brute-force attacks. At SiteGround, we perform automatic daily backups of your website, typically during low traffic hours to minimize any impact on performance. For shared hosting plans, these backups are retained for 30 days. Additionally, you have the option to manually initiate backups through our Backup on Demand service, and you can easily restore a daily or manually created backup directly from Site Tools. It's important to note that our backups are stored on a server different from the one hosting your site. Often, this is not only a different server but also in a different geographical location. This significantly reduces the risk of simultaneous data loss due to localized adverse events. We have also recently introduced a new additional service called Premium Backups.
