How to Assign a Tax Class or a Stripe Tax Code to a Product?
Table of Contents
You can choose between these two tax setups:
- Basic Tax Setup: This is our free service that includes predefined rules and suggested rates for selected countries (USA, Canada, EU, UK, Australia) with the option to manually create rates for all other countries.
- Advanced Tax Setup: A paid service provided via Stripe for advanced compliance.
Depending on the tax setup, you can assign a tax class or a Stripe tax code to a product.
Basic Tax Setup
If you are using a Basic Tax Setup, you will be able to select a Tax Class when creating a product.
The Tax Class field is where you determine the tax rate for your product. You can classify your product as Standard or Non-taxable.

Once you classify the product, the respective tax class and its value for the country or state selected during the checkout process will be used.
Advanced Tax Setup
If you’re using an Advanced Tax Setup, when creating a product, you will be able to select the Stripe Tax Code.
A Stripe Tax Code provides a more granular level of classification. Check the full list of the codes here.
Once you classify the product with a Stripe Tax Product code, the respective code and its associated tax value for the country or state selected during the checkout process will be used.
