How to Create Attributes
Table of Contents
In order to have product variations, you must create the attributes (such as colors, sizes, etc.) that define them. In this guide, you’ll learn how to create universal attributes for all products in your SiteGround Ecommerce store.
How to Create Attributes in a Dropdown
To display attributes with numerous values in a compact way, you can use a drop-down list. This format is suitable for shoe sizes, clothes sizes, etc.
- Go to Site Admin > Store Manager > Attributes.
- Click on the Add New Attribute button.
- Write down the attribute label in the Attribute Name field.
- Open the Attribute Display Format menu, and select Dropdown.
- Enter a value in the Values field.
- To add more values, click on the Add Value button or hit the Enter (Windows) or Return (Mac) button.
- Finally, click on the Save button to confirm the attribute.
The attribute will now be saved and displayed in the Attributes section.
How to Create Color Attributes
Color attributes are best displayed in color boxes, which are a great visual aid for customers. For this purpose, you can use the Color display format.
- Click on the Add New Attribute button.
- Fill in the Attribute Name field.
- Select Colors from the Attribute Display Format menu.
- Click on the color box under Values.
- In the pop-up window, use the color selector to display the desired color.
- Hit the Confirm button.
- Write down the color name in the text field next to the color box.
- Add more colors by clicking on the Add Value button, or just hit the Enter (for Windows) or Return (on Mac) button.
- Finally, hit the Save button to confirm the attribute.
How to Create Attributes with Buttons
You can also display the product attributes with buttons. This option is suitable for attributes with a small number of values and allows you to display them simultaneously on the product page as buttons.

- Fill in the Attribute Name.
- Open the Attribute Display Format menu, and select Buttons.
- Write down the value of the first button in the first Values field.
- Click on the Add Value button or hit Enter to create more values.
- Confirm with the Save button.
